Guess what day it is?
If you said International Skeptics Day, you're right, but that's not what I'm thinking of :)
Today is my Brown Dog's birthday! She is 7. That means that she and I will be the same age this year. (I'll let you figure the math :))
I think she would enjoy a rousing chorus of
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Stinky (yeah... she rolled in something awful yesterday and in spite of the bath is still a little odoriferous... which makes her very happy... have you noticed a theme here? :))
Happy Birthday to you!!!
And of course I will be making her a cake, so stop by later for a slice :)
Speaking of cake, which is sweet, reminds me that we haven't done a Short & Sweet for a while, and what better time for inspiration than now?

In honor of her birthday, let's think up stories for her to star in :))
You can think up a title, or an opening line, or a one sentence pitch or, if you're really ambitious, all three!
I'll go first.
Title: One, Two, Three! Play With Me!
Opening Line: One, two, three! Play with me! How many puppies do you see?
Pitch: A little brown dog wants to play, eat, play, walk, play, roll, and play some more, counting everything as she goes.
Now it's your turn :) Miss Brown says thank you in advance - she knows she will love your ideas to turn her into a literary star! :)
Have a marvelous Monday everyone! And don't forget to stop by later for a slice of birthday cake (or two :))
Happy Birthday to your adorable, stinky Brown Dog! I'll be back for some cake!
ReplyDeleteAh, Happy Birthday to your dog! Is that her name, Brown Dog? Very cute!
ReplyDeleteOnly one and she is brown.
ReplyDeleteBrown dog likes to roll around.
Happy Birthday, Puppy! *wags*
Ruff Woof Aroo Brown Dog! Have a pawsome birthday!
ReplyDeleteShe is much cuter than me. So happy to share a birthday with Stinky. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy dogday!
ReplyDeletePUPPY TALK
No one understands the growls, yowls and yips of sweet brown puppy, when all she really wants is to be with her people.
Title: Happy Hound-day
ReplyDeleteOpening Line: "Open the door! Open the door! I want to chase the bunny.
Pitch: On her birthday, it's a dog's eye view of what makes for a perfect day-with belly rubs, sunny naps, and lots of mud and stink!
Give Brown dog an extra scratch in her favorite spot from me!
Title: Baby Brown's Missing Ball
ReplyDeletePitch: Baby Brown Dog's favorite ball is missing! Follow Little Brown as she sniffs the trail in search of her beloved toy.
Opening Line: Baby Brown woke up from her nap and reached for her favorite orange and blue ball. It was gone!
Happy Birthday to Stinky
ReplyDeleteLet me give this a try. I haven't done this in a while
Title: Can You Guess Who?
Opening line: Can you guess who stepped in the poo
Brown dog smiles and so do you
Pitch: Brown Dog loves to roll in everything she can find around the house, the backyard and the park. But she loves to sneak up to see if you can guess the scent and of course, guess who it's coming from.
Oo, i am a year older than you. Happy Birthday, Stinky!
ReplyDeleteYou are, Joanna? Really? I don't believe it! And look what I've done to my poor Brown Dog - now everyone is going to call her Stinky :)... but she does bring it on herself :)
ReplyDeleteI see a Scratch 'N' Sniff Bestseller, Angela! :) Excellent job. And that is exactly what she rolled in, so you are psychic as well :)
ReplyDeleteOh no! Quel horreur! This title promises to be an edge of your seat thrill ride! I hope she finds the ball!
ReplyDeleteAw! You're so sweet Wendy! Brownie says thank you for the belly rub... which she demands should continue indefinitely so I am typing with one hand... which is not efficient :) I love the idea of a dog's perspective on birthdays :)
ReplyDeleteOoh! What a good idea! I think this one will need to be heavily illustrated. Let me know when you're done - I'm dying to see the pictures :) Brown Dog says thank you for the dog day wishes :)
ReplyDeleteWHAT???!!! Today is YOUR birthday!!! I am so out of it! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATHERINE!!!!! Extra cake for you! And balloons and confetti and lots of presents and an orchestral rendition of the birthday song!
ReplyDeleteAw! Thanks, Cathy! :)
ReplyDeleteShe surely does like to roll around, Donna! You got that right! :) Brownie thanks you for the birthday wishes :)
ReplyDeleteHer actual name is Scout after the heroine in To Kill A Mockingbird, but we hardly ever seem to call her that. She's more often Brownie :) And she thanks you for the birthday wishes :)
ReplyDeleteOh goody! Brown Dog is looking forward to a playdate with Jambo! :)
ReplyDeletePoopy Puppy
ReplyDeleteA scratch and sniff adventure.
Ahem. I'll see myself out.
No need, Mike :) Angela already started conversation :) And Poopy Puppy has a certain alliterative ring to it :)
ReplyDelete:-)
ReplyDeleteYou cannot possible be the same age as your brown dog. Mathmatical error, no question. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're so kind, Janet :) And technically I won't be until April :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm...cool, well, not that she rolled in poo lol!!
ReplyDeleteYou could do a photo book of your puppy, and just add some 'woids'!
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I have enough quality photos. My photography "skills" are not much above my drawing skills :)
ReplyDeleteTitle: Miss Brown and Susanna's Long Walk
ReplyDeletePitch: Susanna gets into some deep trouble on her walk with her pet dog, Miss Brown. And be aware: Miss Brown is the one holding the leash!
Opening lines: Settle down, Susanna! You're all tangled up in the leash.
I LOVE it! Such a sense of humor, Jarm :)
ReplyDelete;-}
ReplyDeleteYou're a meanie. *wink*
ReplyDeleteTitle:Stinky Dinky Doo
ReplyDeletePitch: Stinky Dinky rolled in horse muck and is now afraid to go home. What's a doggie to do?
Opening Line: Stinky Dinky rolled in the horse doo doo, grinning like only she could.
:-) I'm a year older too. *sob*
Stinky Dinky Doo is fun to say :) And horse muck is about what she smelled like, only worse - horse muck doesn't bother me :) Did I miss your birthday???
ReplyDeleteIt was unintentional, but I wouldn't have if she hadn't :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I know that! She's so adorable!
ReplyDeleteHa, it doesn't bother me either. Heck, I dab it on as perfume. *wink*
ReplyDeleteSeptember. :( The older I get the more I think it's farce.) That I was really born in 1973 ;-)
Happy birthday Scout! (and the other one is Jenna, right?) :) Happy birthday Ms. Johnson! Happy Rubber Duckie Day (really!)!
ReplyDeleteHmm...
Title: The white sheep, the brown dog, and the groundhog AKA Scout gets her own story (with help from friends)
Pitch: Featuring Wooliam and Punxsutawney Phyllis, from author Susanna Leornard Hill's picture books, help the author's dog get into her own coveted story, written by Scout the dog, Wooliam, Phyllis, and the author herself!
You may use this as a How-To-Write-A-Good-PB PB, or for just plain fun. :)
Phyllis says, "WA-HOO! At last! Another book about ME!"
ReplyDeleteWoolliam says, "Phyllis, would you keep it down? I'm exhausted. I'm trying to (yawn) catch some zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........"
Scout says, "I'm going to be in a book! Woof! Can you eat books? Can I have another piece of cake?"
Ms. Hill says, "Hmm... It's Rubber Duckie Day, and Phyllis is busy preparing for Groundhog Day and Woolliam is asleep. Who will make sure that Rubber Duckie Day is properly celebrated? Why, Scout of course!... Great idea for a story, thank you Erik :)"
No, I said my real birthdate must be a farce. That I THINK I was born in '73. *wink*
ReplyDeleteWhat a very cute Miss Brown. Happy Birthday Miss Brown!
ReplyDeleteO-ohhhh! I gotcha! :)
ReplyDeleteShe says thank you, Pat! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable puppy! Thanks for sharing the photo and providing the Short and Sweet writing prompt, Susanna.:) And I used the advice from Emma Walton Hamilton's 12x12 author post in order to write the pitch/central story question...I'm so excited about the template she gave...I know it will really help me to focus for my story writing this year.
ReplyDeleteTitle: Little Brown's Boring Day
Pitch: Little Brown want to play with Big Brown but he can't because Big Brown is too busy so he finds ways to occupy himself and ultimately realizes that playing by himself can be fun.
Opening lines: Little Brown wants to play. "Play with me!" he asked. "I'm busy now," said Big Brown. "Find something to do." "There's nothing to do! Being in the house is boring!" Little Brown told Big Brown.
Oh my gosh, that brings back memories of my dog who ALWAYS had to roll in something stinky, especially right after I gave her a bath. :P I love the name Scout! To Kill a Mockingbird related?
ReplyDeleteMy brain is really fried today…long day out, too much to do, so I will be a party-pooper (no pun intended; I see you guys have already gone down that path!) and not play.
But I do want to wish Scout a very Happy Birthday! Like Joanna, I am also a year older than Scout. :)
Little Brown Dog says thanks for the compliments, Vivian :) And wow! you've got the whole pitch thing down! You've got a book started right here! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, what is it with that rolling?! Scouty thanks you for the birthday wishes (and yes, TKAM related :) as is Jemma - feminized for Jem :)) And I seriously don't believe you're potentially older than me!
ReplyDeleteWooliam can work night-shift if he wants. :) And Scout, well, she can celebrate Dress Up Your Pet Day, today! :) And all of us can celebrate Organize your Home Day, today, and Dad and I can celebrate Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day, today, and Mom can do Poetry at Work Day, and and we'll have LOTS of fun!
ReplyDelete:D
If this is really Organize Your Home Day, maybe that is a sign that this is the day I should Organize My Work... which I was going to do yesterday, but then I for disorganized :)
ReplyDeleteI think you're in pretty good shape already :)
ReplyDeleteSo clever to name them after the TKAM characters! And, yup, I'll be 50 in 4 months. :}
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute pic! I hope your basement woes are better. Have you considered a puppy bathing center down there? :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I'll be 49 in 3, so we're actually less than a year apart :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an AWESOME idea Coleen! Why didn't I think of that??? :)
ReplyDelete:) Apparently Monday wasn't the day... or Tuesday... Or, now that I think of it, today. But maybe tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteAnd, really, since chronological age doesn't correspond to accomplishments, there's no benefit to being older. :)
ReplyDeleteBut don't forget, older is wiser! :)
ReplyDeleteMy family would laugh at that in my case. :D
ReplyDeleteMy family laughs at me anyway :) Or rolls their eyes :)
ReplyDeleteI think your family and mine have taken lessons from the same place. :D
ReplyDeleteBrown Dog's baby picture is precious! I want to jump right through my computer and come to NY to hug her!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish her a happy belated! Give her that hug from me :-)
Thank you, Penny! Hug given! She sends you a very tidy dog kiss (she is not at all sloppy :)) in return and thanks you for the hug and for saying she's cute :)
